African Violets are a popular houseplant that can bring a lot of beauty and colour to your home. Caring for them correctly is important to ensure that your African Violets stay healthy and vibrant. Here’s a guide to help you keep your African Violets in top condition.

Light and Temperature

African Violets prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as this can cause the leaves to burn. African Violets also prefer a warm environment, between 65 and 75°F. Keep the plant away from drafts, such as air conditioning or radiators.

Watering

African Violets prefer to be watered from the bottom. Place the pot in a shallow tray filled with water, and allow the plant to absorb the water through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Make sure to empty any excess water from the tray after 30 minutes. African Violets should be watered every 5-7 days, or when the top inch of soil is dry.

Fertilizer

African Violets need to be fertilized to stay healthy. Use a water-soluble fertilizer specifically designed for African Violets. Fertilize once a month during the growing season, and every other month during the winter. Make sure to dilute the fertilizer according to the instructions on the package.

Pruning

African Violets should be pruned regularly to keep them looking their best. Remove any dead or damaged leaves, as well as any flower stalks that have finished blooming. Pruning will also help to encourage new growth.

Repotting

African Violets should be repotted every 1-2 years. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current pot, and use fresh potting soil. After repotting, water the plant thoroughly and place it in a bright, warm location.

By following these simple tips, you can keep your African Violets looking their best for years to come!
